This page explains what Cryptobase does with information about you. It is written to be read, not to cover us. It describes how the site works today, and it gets updated when that changes — not afterwards.
The short version
We do not sell your data, we do not run advertising trackers, and we do not build a profile of you or follow you across other websites.
There are no accounts on Cryptobase at the moment, so there is nothing to sign up for and nothing for us to hold. We may add them later. If we do, this page will set out what an account stores before the first one is created.
What we collect
Server logs. Our host records standard web server information when you load a page: IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time. This is ordinary infrastructure logging, kept to run the site and keep it secure. We do not use it to identify individual readers.
A security cookie. The site sits behind Cloudflare, which sets a cookie called __cf_bm when you visit. Its job is telling human visitors from automated ones. It expires within about half an hour, it is not used for advertising, and it does not track you between sites.
Nothing else, at present. Comments are not open. The newsletter is not taking signups, so no email addresses are being collected or stored. There are no analytics on the site.
Third parties, and what they can see
Price data: they cannot see you. The live prices and charts on our coin pages come from CoinGecko, but your browser never talks to them. Our server fetches the data and passes it on, so CoinGecko sees our server and not you.
Coin logos: they can. The coin symbol shown on each coin page is loaded straight from CoinGecko’s image servers by your browser, which means they receive your IP address when you open one. It is a single image request and carries no cookie, but we would rather say so than let you assume otherwise. We may host these images ourselves later, which would remove even that.
Hosting. The site is hosted by WP Engine and served through Cloudflare. Both process server logs on our behalf as part of running and protecting the site.
Where an article links out to another site, following that link is between you and them, under their rules.
What we never do
No advertising cookies. No retargeting pixels. No cross-site tracking. No selling or sharing personal data with data brokers. If we ever carry advertising, it will be labelled on the page and this policy will say what it does before it appears.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. Contact us and we will act on it. Given the above, there is usually very little for us to hold.
If you are not happy with how we have handled something, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
