What Cryptobase is
Cryptobase is a UK crypto news site. It covers the stories that matter to someone holding, considering or simply trying to understand cryptocurrency from Britain, and it explains what they actually mean rather than reprinting what an exchange put in a press release.
Why it exists
Most crypto coverage is written for a global audience and priced in dollars, which leaves a British reader doing their own translation on the things that matter most: how a gain is taxed here, what protection exists if a platform fails, and which rules apply to them. Our coin pages answer those questions directly, in pounds.
What we will not do
We do not publish price predictions. We do not rate coins as or . We do not tell anyone what to buy, and nothing on this site is financial advice.
Where we earn money from a link, we say so on the page it appears on.
How it is made
Cryptobase works to a published editorial standard set by Faeren Hopkins. Claude, Anthropic’s Opus 5 model, drafts the articles inside it, and every published piece is checked daily against incoming news. We explain the process in full on our How we write page, including what is automated and what is not.
Who runs it
Cryptobase is published by Faeren Hopkins, who is responsible for everything on it.
The domain has been in the family since 2012. My father registered it back when he and a friend were selling some of the first crypto in Britain and across Europe, and he held onto the name for more than a decade. I took it over once I was old enough to understand what he had been doing.
I am studying, and this is my main work. What started it was noticing how much crypto writing is built for an American reader: prices in dollars, American tax rules, American regulators. If you are in Britain you end up translating everything yourself, and the questions that matter most, what you owe HMRC, what protection exists if a platform fails, which rules actually apply to you, are the ones nobody answers directly.
That gap is what this site is for. I am learning as I go and passing on what I find, and the aim is narrow: help people here spend less and understand more. Where I get something wrong, I would rather be told than left alone with it.
How it is paid for
There are no adverts on Cryptobase, no sponsored posts, and nothing behind a login. That is a choice, and it is the reason the pages are quiet and the reviews can say what they find. A site funded by the companies it reviews ends up reading like one.
So it is paid for two ways. A few of our review pages carry affiliate links, and where one does, that page says so. The rest is readers.
I am a student doing this as my main work rather than a company with a marketing budget, so the numbers here are small and every contribution genuinely changes what I can do. It keeps the site running, it supports my studies, and it means the next guide gets written properly rather than quickly.
If something here has saved you money, or explained a thing nobody else would, you can chip in by card or crypto. A few pounds is a real help at this size. And if you would rather not, that is genuinely fine: the site stays free and unchanged either way, and telling one person about it helps almost as much.
If something on this site is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed or removed.
