CoinMarketCap, the price site owned by Binance, has bought CoinGlass, the analytics platform traders use to see how much leverage is sitting on an exchange and how much of it has just been wiped out. The financial terms weren’t disclosed.
CoinGlass tracks (how many derivatives positions are currently open), funding rates (the recurring fee that keeps perpetual futures priced near the spot market), liquidations and options activity. It tracks all of it across venues, including the ones competing with Binance, which is what makes it useful and what makes the ownership question worth asking. The data now sits inside the same group’s market data business as CoinMarketCap.
One caution. We could not find an announcement from either company or from Binance, and what’s above comes from The Defiant’s write-up rather than a primary source. Nobody from the companies has been quoted on the record about the deal, the price hasn’t been published, and no timeline has been given for whether CoinGlass keeps operating separately. Anything beyond “the acquisition happened, terms undisclosed” is thinly sourced at this stage.
